My Last 5 Purchases #2

My Last 5 Purchases #2

This is such a scary thing to post about! I pick a time at random and just go for it. I chose to do this after a few drinks on NYE, so let's see what we find. Here are my last 5 purchases, excluding food and Christmas presents.

  1. Sportsgirl heels, $80
After my big shoe clear out I found myself with 4 pairs. 1x heels, 1x boots, 1x sandals, 1x joggers. What this meant is that I lacked an intermediate between my daily Birkenstocks and my platform Lipstik heels. Sportsgirl sells both leather and non-leather shoes, so I was careful which I chose, and I bought a pair of low heels for events where my sky high platforms just don't suit! Sportsgirls' labour standards are good, but there is no info on their environmental standards. I went with them because I had shopped around with no luck. I now only own 5 pairs of shoes, and I still feel that's a minimal number.

    Justified purchase? = YES

  2. Wall painting, $12 (pictured)
Target's labour standards aren't great, but on our budget it was Target or nothing. While the painting itself is fine, it's entirely possible that I could have left the wall blank. It wasn't a bad purchase but it was a little too impulsive.

    Justified purchase? = NO

  3. Clock, $5
A $5 Target clock so we could tell the time? I have no idea where to buy an ethical clock, I've never seen such a thing. No-brainer.

    Justified purchase? = YES

  4. Cushions, $16
Two H&M cushion inserts for my Indian cushion covers. H&M is accredited by the Fair Labor association and got an A in the Australian Fashion Report. I use the cushions every day.

    Justified purchase? = YES

  5. Book, $13
While traveling in 2013 I found a book that blew my mind. As I was a traveler I lived off book exchanges so I didn't bring it home. That book was Paulo Coehlo's The Aleph, so I bought it to sit on the shelf next to Alchemy. Between the 2 of us we've whittled our collection down to about a dozen books, and I think we're doing well on the minimalism front. Unfortunately, I ordered this book physically just like the last time I ordered The Moneyless Man. Embarrassing. However, this book was a life-changer for me and I genuinely do want to keep it forever. It was not an impulse buy, it was an investment.

    Justified purchase? = YES

Overall I've followed my own purchasing standards. Taking time out to analyse how you spend your money and what you surround yourself with is healthy. What were your last 5 purchases?
