Tropical North Queensland Road Trip Packing List (For vegans)

Tropical North Queensland Road Trip Packing List (For vegans)

Two months after our first ever road trip together, Tim and I are back on the road for another quick trip along the coast. We left this morning. You can read about our last trip under the Travel section of this blog or at VeganTravel. Last time we went south, so this time we're headed north to travel about 1000km to Far North Queensland and the Daintree rainforest. No van this trip, just a single cab ute and a tent!

In Australia, early September is the beginning of Spring. In Cairns, the temperature only usually ranges between 18-28 degrees Celsius at this time so it is warm. Beautifully, beautifully warm. After writing a road trip packing list for near freezing temperatures in the south of Australia in winter, this packing list calls for entirely different clothes! Below is the packing list for a woman spending 10 active days on the road.

  • Pyjama top

Underwear

Face Care

Body and Hair Care

  • Apple cider vinegar
    • I use 1 part ACV to 1 part filtered water as a hair rinse
  • Coconut oil
    • I use this as a body moisturiser and on the ends of my hair if I have too much frizz or volume
  • Bamboo comb
  • Schmidt's deodorant

My entire, natural hair care kit. Just two ingredients!

First Aid/Health

  • Bandaids
  • Bug roll-on
  • Sunscreen
  • Hand sanitiser
  • Painkillers
  • Your supplements of choice

Gadgets

  • Canon G7X Mark ii
  • GorillaPod
  • iPhone 6S
  • MacBook Air
  • Earphones

Zero Waste Supplies

Misc. Extras

  • Sunglasses
  • One book (preferably fiction, you're on vacation!)
  • A tablecloth or throw for picnics

And that's it! Those are all the personal items I'm taking with me. Four daily-wear tops, a pair of bottoms for every occasion and the bare minimum beauty and hygiene products. I like to pack light and ensure I don't compromise any practicality for whimsy, so a 40L suitcase is the perfect way to ensure I think carefully about what I take and that I don't carry any dead weight with items I won't use.

Today is only day one of the adventure, so I'll be updating Instagram daily and the blog with so much more detail about exploring FNQ as a minimalist vegan at the end of the trip.

My handbag contains my water bottle, KeepCup, reusable cutlery kit, sunglasses (in a nondescript case to draw attention away from my designer glasses), face mist spray, pawpaw ointment and hand sanitiser.

Two things I'm not packing in my bag to avoid leaks. Apple cider vinegar and coconut oil for my hair.
